tf2 dedicated server bandwidth
Games Dedicated Server Specs?
Was looking at getting a dedicated server for my guild and for me to learn, so I was wondering, what specs would I need to host a TF2 (Team Fortress 2) server and a Garry's Mod / CS: S (Counter Strike: Source) server. Also what kind of bandwidth would I need (10MB +?)? Also if possible Does anybody have any general price for what this would cost? Great answers so far, just to work, then, I nt server hosting these for me home, but at a different site, probably by third party or something, maybe colon
You have a powerful CPU and a good amount of high quality RAM. I would recommend that you at least one dedicated server with a sort of Intel i7, Intel Core 2 Duo / Quad, Dual Xeon or AMD X2 CPU. In terms of RAM, you want something quick – and you want a fair amount. 1 GB or 2 GB is recommended, but make sure that the DDR2-800 or better. DDR2-667 can also work if you're on a budget. However, the main component is delayed. Make sure you get a server that is closest to your guild members. Before choosing a provider, ask them if they sample a server to ping speed test, etc. Once an IP address, ask your fellow members of the guild ping server and report their findings. Choose the one with the lowest average ping times. Bandwidth requirements are not too big and 10MBit should do fine. However, if cheap enough, get something with 100Mbit Burstable pricing. That is – you get the full speed when you need it, but you expect that to limit your consumption. These days, with providers including 1TB/mo transfer, you should not worry. It's like the 5000-minutes cell phone plan. Expect to spend somewhere between $ 80 and $ 120 per Mon There are a few providers go for less than $ 80, but their service is often appalling. There are some who go about $ 120 which is very nice servers and customer support to offer, but they are mostly aimed at the serious business clients.
