Web Hosting Vista – ISS 7?

Hi I would like to host a website on my PC, I looked around and tried and I must of done something wrong and when my ip in my internet browser address bar, I get one of those annoying boxes enter the password authorization, any ideas or instructions on how to create a virtual server hosting overalls deaply on Vista would be appreciated. Thanks in advance David Gee

Forgive me if I did not directly answer your question, it is just my opinion but in general IIS IIS 7 in particular are very complicated, awkward and insecure products. I have no pre-concieved bias against Microsoft products, but I've worked with companies in IIS production systems. Despite all the warnings they got hosed badly when security vulnerabilities were discovered and exploited. Access Vista annoyances make it even worse, without that solving real problems. Alternatively, I consider XAMPP, which is user bundle of Apache and other things, that care of most installation and configuration Takes problems. Even if you have virtual servers for Apache is well documented and established procedure. http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html
