What are your experiences of hosting international students in your house?

My husband and I have applied 20 years to a Japanese university student host this summer for a few months while they attend our local university summer program. We have heard far more bad than good stories about the whole process, but I remain more positive about it because my husband and I have both traveled extensively, including among Asian countries, so we understand their culture, perhaps more than one. I would really like to hear your stories, your advice, your experience, your opinion so clearly outline where your thoughts come from, because if one of the uncle, aunt cousin friend, I do not believe that reliable information. But the first hand would be awesome. Thank you for taking the time to share with us! Women in northwestern Canada.

Have some very good experiences. One, a young man High School, from Finland, who stayed throughout the years. He came to know English, but not the idiom. The second day here, the woman took him to soccer practice. Coach told 4 hours later to come to get him. When she did, he was good friends with one half of the team. Year was very good. At his graduation he received a standing ovation from his class mates. Had a Japanese high school student one years or two before that still comes through e-mail us. He did very well with his classmates also. But that was only 3 months session. Disaster was a very spoiled young man of Chinese descent in Australia. He wanted everything his way, and sometimes seemed to be mocking us. He had never seen snow. This winter, we had one in New Jersey unusual winter of 48 inches within 2 weeks. He did not want to see snow again in his life. We were also glad to see him go. All our experiences with High School students, however, I think the same things would happen for a little older. You must have set house rules and curfews. Remember, you are not their servants, but they say, in Parentis locas, or how. You can mail me at Yahoo if you need more information.
